It seems that SS501 will move into the plans of advancing into the American market with great cautions.

SS501 members Kim Kyu Jong and Heo Yeong Saeng recently took part in a concert performance and for an interview in LA. There they met up with famous producers Andrew Lane and Steven Lee on 21st March and discussed about music and advancing into the American market.

A DSP representative said, “When we were working on the album ‘U R Man’, we have also received some songs from Andrew Lane. Through this, we get to meet these people in America.”

“We did have talks about advancement into the American market. We do have plans on an American market advancement but we have yet to have solid plans laid down.”

SS501 will be releasing a special album in May and in summer they will release a new album.

Jihoo and JanDi in Go Hye Sun's opinion

Jihoo is Jandi's soulmate
Source :
Yahoo Korea
translated by: dunlop09@soompi forum

Goo Hye Sun clarified the relationship between Jihoo and Jandi, “Jihoo is Jandi's soulmate. Jandi likes Jihoo as a person and a irreplaceable friend, but she doesn't love him."

In a recent interview she said, "Love can only exist if the hearts of two people feel the same way, but Jandi does not have that feeling towards Jihoo. That's why, no matter how much Jihoo has feelings for Jandi, the two can never be together.

"Of course, Jandi liked Jihoo at first. But on the way, she has cleared up her feelings for him. The reason why she is so good to Jihoo after, is because she cares for him, not because she loves him.

However, it is true that Jandi's attitude is attracting Jihoo. At this, Goo Hye Sun said, "I know that there are bound to be people who criticize Jandi for putting up an innocent attitude between Jihoo and Junpyo, but that is because Jandi does not know Jihoo's heart. The viewers and I know his feelings, but Jandi does not know that Jihoo likes her.

But she said, "If I were to find out someone liked me, I would never show an innocent attitude. I think I would have to draw a clear line in order to ensure that I don't hurt him."

Kim So Eun As Pocari Sweat brand endorser

Actress Kim So Eun, who has enjoyed a rapid upsurge in her popularity recently, has been selected as the next generation endorser of the “Pocari Sweat” drink. Donga Otsuka has officially signed a contract with Kim So Eun for the exclusive endorsement of Pocari Sweat.

The endorsement for the Pocari Sweat drink has always been highly sought after by many actresses, especially newcomers, as those who managed to be its endorser will see their popularity and career climbing to a new high, as past histories have shown. Go Hyun Jung first endorsed the drink in 1991, followed by Shim Eun Ha in 1994 and Jang Jin Young in 1997. Son Ye Jin and Lee Yeon Hee were the 2001 and 2005 endorser respectively.

This latest CF for the drink was shot in a popular vacation resort in Thailand. Kim So Eun in front of the camera displayed a pure and adorable image that is a perfect mix with the brand image. The CF will hit the streets next month.

Goo Hye Sun clarified about wearing branded things

In regards to the viewers’ criticisms on her poor girl role in “Boys Before Flowers” covering with branded goods, Goo Hye Sun has made an explanation during a recent interview and stated that “the truth isn’t as such”.

Goo Hye Sun explained : “There were recently some viewers who accused me of using branded products, which does not match with the poor living conditions of Geum Jan Di in the drama. However, the truth isn’t as such. The leather shoes that appeared in the Macau scene was bought from Dong Dae Mun. And it only costs 10 thousand Won per pair. Owing to the story’s needs, we bought two pairs.”

Shortly after the broadcast of the scene where Jan Di broke her shoes, some netizens commented on websites that Jan Di’s shoe was actually a Christian Louboutin, a French brand that costs over a million won in Korea. They proceed to criticize Goo Hye Sun and the team on their lack of consideration for these details.

Goo Hye Sun said: “Although Geum Jan Di is an ordinary girl, but she isn’t a girl from a poor family. The original manga of ‘Boys Before Flowers’ was a product of the 90s, it is adapted into a K-drama only now. Hence, discrepancies between the different eras will definitely be present. Moreover, I would discuss with the coordinators of the team everytime I received props (apparels, shoes etc) from the sponsors, to determine if they fit into the character’s personality and status.”

Kim Joon and Kim Bum Fansigning EVent

The 28th was a busy day for F2 boys Kim Bum and Kim Joon, but particularly so for the former.

Both Boys Before Flowers stars attended a fansigning event that evening (above), but first, Kim Bum appeared at one of his own in the morning as well (below).

At 11:30 am, the fansigning session that took place in Seoul’s Myungdong shopping district drew a crowd of 2,500 fans.

This morning session took place at the store for Spris, the activewear clothing brand that Kim Bum endorses (with Go Ara), which sponsored the event.

Kim explained, “Because I’m filming the last shoot for Boys Before Flowers today, I’m sorry I couldn’t meet many of the fans. Even if it was only a short while, I’m so thankful for your huge support.”

Following the close of Boys Before Flowers in the coming days, Kim Bum moves his attention to the big screen — his war movie “71″ is next, starring Yoo Seung-ho (Legend) and Big Bang’s Seung-ri.

Following that morning’s event, Kim Bum joined his castmate Kim Joon for another fansigning in the evening, this time at Seoul’s Yongsan I’PARKmall at 6pm.

This two-hour-long event tied in to the latest Boys Before Flowers merchandising, a second photo and music book (which contains 76 pages of new stills from the set); also sold on-site were the drama’s newly released OST 2 and OST 2.5 albums. On top of that, articles of clothing worn by the actors in the drama were auctioned off for charity.

Asked what he’ll remember most about BBF when it’s over, Kim Bum answered, “the ones with my partner Ga-eul [Kim So-eun],” to much cheer from fans. (Hey, the boy knows how to do fanservice right.)

Furthermore, preceding the signing session, pop group T-Max, of which Kim Joon is a member, gave a short performance.

Kim Bum and Kim So Eun Reunion

The incoming finale of KBS2TV Boys Before Flowers might leave some happy yet others sad that it's ending after almost 3 months.

본 아이에프 (Bon I.F.), the parent company for food products like Bon Bimbimbap, Bon Juk, etc has inked a contract with Kim Bum and Kim So Eun for the duration of one year to endorse their products. And naturally, they will reunite in the CF as a couple. Kim So Eun's character, Gal Eul had been working part-time at a porridge shop in Boys Before Flowers and was called Bom Juk which was in actual fact, a real Bon Juk shop. In the early stages of the drama, Kim Bum's character, So Yi Jung makes several visits to look for her.

A spokesperson for the company expressed, "We decided on both Kim Bum and Kim So Eun because of their fresh, youthful image. The immense popularity of Boys Before Flowers will also help to raise the awareness and positioning of our company's brand." Looks like Kim Bum and Kim So Eun will be meeting each other again pretty soon outside of school.

Kim Joon's 10 Asia Profile INterview

This 10 Asia profile on Kim Joon, which was published back in January, after he had first attracted notice for playing Woo-bin in Boys Before Flowers.

Kim Joon: My Name Is…

My name is: Kim Joon. Birth name Kim Hyung-joon. When I started as an actor, I changed my name a little; not a big change, but something to make it easier to remember. I grew accustomed to it right away because my T-Max bandmates always call me “Joon!”

I was born on February 2, 1984. In Boys Before Flowers, I appear in a lot of scenes with [Kim] Bum, and we’re five years apart in age. I’ve always been the youngest, but all of a sudden I became the eldest, which was awkward. [Laughs]

About T-Max, rapping, and training for a kpop music career —

I recall my stage debut as a singer vividly. It was July of 2007, and the first performance was a live broadcast. I was in the middle, and the choreography started, but I was so nervous I lost my rhythm. Thinking of all the practice I’d put in till that point, I did cry a little offstage.

To become a singer, I was a trainee for about four or five years. There were lots of times when (Shin) Min-chul hyung and I rehearsed together and did guide recordings [demo recordings] for the songs written by the songwriter hyungs in the office. That experience really helped a lot. After (Park) Yoon-hwa joined, the three of us debuted about two years later as T-Max. Maybe it’s because we went through tough times together, but the three of us are as close as blood brothers.

Because I don’t have an optimistic personality, it’s difficult for me to take charge proactively. I became a singer after going to a songwriter hyung’s office and learning from him, and I auditioned for the drama on my management’s encouragement. However, when I decide to do something, I think of what I have to do to achieve that.

The other members knew I had auditioned for Boys Before Flowers, but we found out about my being cast in a newspaper report. I didn’t want to tell them when it wasn’t confirmed, so throughout the process I didn’t say anything.

I’m called an old soul a lot. I can’t do this now that I’m so busy, but when I was younger I read a lot of books, and I’ve always been an overthinker. [Laughs]

Through writing rap lyrics myself, within the limited time and restrictions, I tend to choose words to convey as much as possible. It’s also a habit of mine to pay close attention to the words and expressions I use.

My voice is low, and combined with a bit of a nasal tone, my enunciation isn’t that good. But as I practiced rapping, I’ve learned to cover up the worst parts of my enunciation, by accentuating certain parts or emphasizing others. That kind of work as a singer also helps with acting.

Regarding acting and Boys Before Flowers —

Song Woo-bin’s rap-talk and English lines were created after I was cast. Because we couldn’t have all four F4 members be too similar, each of us were given distinctive character traits. In real life, it’s not like I’ve studied abroad and I’m still very awkward with acting, so I’m very glad that there are people who enjoy watching.

In terms of difficulty, it’s that I have to match up to the standard of F4. These guys take on unique activities as their hobbies. I usually just exercise and do simple sports like basketball or soccer, so it was difficult trying things I’d never done before, like golf, tennis, horseback riding.

On location in New Caledonia, our schedules were so tight, it was a struggle. There were a lot more restrictions than when filming in Korea, and because we were overseas, even little problems would come up, like with the food. However, because of the overseas shoots, the actors really bonded. Even when we weren’t filming, we had to stick together. [Laughs] That’s why if you look at the scenes that were shot before then, you can see that we were still awkward around each other. At that point, the extent of our relationships were merely knowing each other’s phone numbers.

I think F4 is likable because of their particular kind of naivete. In real life, they might feel embarrassed or pressured, but because they can be simple-hearted and sometimes make mistakes, viewers see them as cute and feel for them. If you try to act arrogant in real life, you’ll definitely stir animosity. Their appeal is that although they possess a lot of things, they all have their dumb sides too.

A lot of people ask what I’ll do in the future, whether I’ll choose between being a singer and actor. I always have the same response. I want to do both. I think it’s a little ambitious of me to say that when I haven’t yet proven myself in either, but even if it’s difficult, I don’t think it’s impossible. They are both appealing fields. Oh, I think T-Max will appear on a music program soon. I’m looking forward to standing onstage with the other members after so long.

Things are getting more and more interesting

Everyone pays attention at the edge. And that someone on the edge, for the time that he shines in front of the camera, is fully immersed in the role he is playing. Song Woo-bin of KBS’s Boys Before Flowers, played by Kim Joon, is on the other side of Gu Jun-pyo (Lee Min-ho)’s shoulder, trailing a step behind Yoon Ji-hoo (Kim Hyun-joong) surveying the situation while pushing the edge of his lip and displaying his characteristic smile. Even when he shows amusement while their constant companion So Yi-jung (Kim Bum) is involved in a problem, rather than raising his voice or getting worked up, he merely says one or two words in his low voice. Aside from the amusing “bad hip-hop English” he tosses out occasionally, you could almost see him as F4’s “internal leader.” He might not draw everybody’s attention, but once you do take notice, he makes you look twice. His appeal isn’t that he shines brightly from the center, but that he gently guards the corner of Boys Before Flowers.

A 26-year-old young man who judges himself objectively

However, the Kim Joon I met in real life isn’t soft or refined. A short-sleeved shirt reveals a slim body underneath, and slightly tired-looking eyes appear rather sensitive. Whatever question is tossed at him, he replies with words that seem as though they’ve been written down very carefully, and he listens to analysis of himself so objectively, almost to the point of coldness, that I feel the need to check that this young man is really twenty-six. However, his sharp points don’t make others uncomfortable, unlike the prickly thorns others can have. Rather, it’s like he has a finely tuned antenna that he uses to read his own feelings clearly. Perhaps that’s why there’s no apparent sense of discontent when he says, “I may be the least experienced in terms of my acting career, but ultimately all four members of F4 are friends. That’s why when we’re on set, we even call each other by our characters’ names.” ** That’s because what this young man needs most right now isn’t a friendly hyung to take care of him, but a sunbae [senior] from whom he can watch and learn.

“Watching my acting is still extremely embarrassing”

However, no matter how well the end of that antenna is polished, as someone acting for the first time in his life, what he portrays in front of the camera must be difficult. Furthermore, this is different from taking the stage once to perform something one has been preparing for a long while. It’s a whole new world for him, adapting and becoming familiar with a drama character in a process that exposes oneself gradually.

“When you’re onstage, the audience’s reaction comes immediately. But when I’m standing in front of a camera, I have no idea how my actions will appear and that makes me even more nervous.” Even when watching the monitor, when he’s not watching to catch a mistake in pronunciation or the angle of a hand but rather to get a grasp of a subtle expression or action, he says he’s extremely embarrassed to watch his acting. “I’m sure everyone’s like that, but the more I see, the more the flaws seem to stand out in relief. Like when you look in a mirror and only see the ugly parts.” It’s refreshing to hear his bashful admission, in a world that’s filled with people who disregard their flaws. Furthermore, the sensitive look on his face is cleared by his clean, laughing expression.

He calls himself “an ordinary guy just like others my age,” but Kim Joon’s energy isn’t by any means ordinary. He says, “I’ve never borrowed a manhwa book before. I first read one for the Boys Before Flowers audition. But even though it was kind of uncomfortable, I found it had an appeal, in that it made me curious to know what was going to happen next. I found it fresh and entertaining to see how the male lead character meets a nice girl and his feelings undergo a change.”

However he may have gotten his start, Kim has a strength that sends him searching for the answers he wants. And that strength won’t take him to the edge, but right to the center of a drama himself. No, it’s as though he’s already living his life at the center of his world, as a music-loving rapper, and also as someone who won’t stop in his desire to become an actor. The future looks more and more interesting for this young man, who lives life from the center.

Translator's Note: This article assumes readers already knows that Kim Joon is the oldest in the main cast, he is the same age as Goo Hye Sun. He is the least experience but because he is older sometimes the other three F4 members call him "Hyung" or "sunbae". However because he feels that he has the least experience he does not want to be called that and would prefer they talk casually with him instead. He once accidentally called Goo Hye Sun "Noona" (because the other three always call her noona after filming) but that is technically wrong since they are the same age. Ever since Goo Hye Sun teases him by calling him "Oppa".

Goo Hye Sun and Her Role in BOF

“Loving someone despite all obstacles may be one of the most difficult things in life. It may be harder than living in poverty,” said Ku Hye-sun, who is playing the heroine whom two of the four protagonists are pursuing in the KBS2 hit drama “Boys Over Flowers.” And that is why most women viewers are jealous of her.

In an interview at a shooting site at Eulwangri Beach in Incheon on Sunday, Ku said, “I was skeptical about its success when I decided to take the role. I doubted it would appeal to Koreans because it is based on a Japanese comic book. Taking the role itself was a challenge.”

Geum Jan-di, whom she plays, is an ordinary high school student who wants to be a swimmer. She happens to attend a school for rich children although her family is poor, with her parents running a small cleaners that they eventually lose to creditors. This gets her subjected to contempt and mistreatment, but she tries not to lose her dignity and faces her situation squarely.

Ku confessed that she herself couldn’t understand the character completely. “There were moments that I couldn’t sympathize with her. If I had been able to, I would not have had conflicts in my mind. I wondered why she tries to deal with all her difficulties alone and why she feels she has to take care of her family.”

But the 25-year-old actress said that Jan-di has made her a more genuine and happier person. “By playing the role, I have become more positive. I was sorry to realize that I am losing innocence as I get older, and that made it more difficult for me to be Jan-di. So whenever I couldn’t identify with her, I kind of forced myself to become more innocent.”

She continued, “And I actually recalled my high school years, and realized that what I cherished most then was the people I liked. It seems I felt that if I could be with them, I could do anything.”

The drama is enjoying great popularity thanks to Ku and the other stars who are giving their utmost effort despite some misfortunes they have suffered. Ku had a car accident on her way back to Seoul from a local shooting site and had to have the inside of her mouth stitched.

“I have to get a thorough examination when the shooting ends. I bumped my head hard as well, but had no time to get an examination due to the shooting schedule,” she said. “The schedule is so tight that we all have trouble with our physical conditions. We are suffering lack of sleep so much that we can fall asleep at any moment. Now that all the shooting will be over in a week, we will hang in there until then.”

In Incheon, she shot a scene where Jan-di, who has decided to part ways with her boyfriend Jun-pyo, played by Lee Min-ho, due to his mother’s disapproval, goes on a trip with him for the last time.

“But I want it to come to a happy ending. I personally like stories with happy endings because they warm people’s hearts. I hope my drama is also one of those kinds,” said Ku.

Hyun Joong In a Fashion Show

Seoul Fashion Week officially kicked off and Kim Hyunjoong was one of the celebs that were spotted during the event.

But unlike most celebrities who got front row seats, Hyunjoong got a chance to walk the runway wearing clothes from designer Han Sang Hyeok’s F/W ‘09 Collection.

Hyunjoong was the surprise finale of the show and all the shutterbugs present at the event went crazy as soon as he walked on that stage. Hyunjoong sure looked good modeling the Sherlock Holmes inspired collection.

The glamorous event was held at Seoul Trade Exhibition & Convention Center (SETEC), and featured the works of several veteran fashion designers and fashion brand companies in Korea. It opened March 26 and will end its run on April 2.

The sports, horsemanship, marksmanship, golf, soccer, swimming, ice hockey, basketball etc, have appeared on the scene in succession, opening the eyes of the audience. Let's take a look together at the irresistible stars below.

Invincible Goo Joon Pyo (Lee Min Ho)

In Boys Over Flowers, Lee Min Ho is both talented and handsome, worthy of leading F4, and is proficient at all kinds of sports such as horseback rider, golf player, shooter, soccer player, ice hockey player, archer, basketball player, etc. Despite avoiding swimming due to nearly drowning in childhood, for love he attacked and captured what may be called the Olympic Games all-round championship. In actuality, Lee Min Ho, who plays Goo Joon Pyo, once learned soccer for four years in Coach Che Fangen's youth soccer training class during elementary school. However, after an injury he could not help but give up playing soccer. This experience is not unlike the Geum Jan Di in the drama.

Born as the heir to the Shinhwa Group, Goo Joon Pyo seems to be invincible and revered. However, when facing the woman he loves, this untamable cruel and condescending man is exceptionally single-minded in infatuation. Even one word from Geum Jan Di will cause him to fix his hair with utmost care, put on his school uniform, and obediently attend school. Extremely cute. He had always believed that money could buy everything. However, Goo Joon Pyo had to suffer the cold shoulder from Geum Jan Di. He even experience Geum Jan Di's tornado kick. The invincible Goo Joon Pyo had finally met his match -- Geum Jan Di.

Multi-talented Yoon Ji Hoo (Kim Hyun Joong)

SS501's leader, Kim Hyun Joong, who played the part of Yoon Ji Hoo in the drama, is also extremely talented in music. In the drama is acts as the grandson of the former president, Yoon Ji Hoo, who can be said to be a multi-talented graceful gentleman proficient in violin, conducting symphonies, piano, and harmonic. Regardless of whether he is playing the violin hidden in the quiet forest, or singing with the guitar for money on the streets of Macau, or playing the harmonica for a patient, awaiting diagnosis, in his grandfather's clinic, Yoon Ji Hoo always appears to be so quiet and gentle.

Not only is he talented on the music side, Yoon Ji Hoo is also an expert at swimming, horseback riding, playing ice hockey, soccer, basketball, etc - all categories of sports. He is as dazzling as prince charming in fairy tales, especially when he rides his white horse. The attentive and understanding, Yoon Ji Hoo, is always stepping forward when the female lead, Geum Jan Di, runs into difficulty. When Jan Di was wounded by her relationship, he will always be accompanying her, by her side, comforting her. He also puts much thought and heart into the way he helps out Jan Di. Instead of sending a pile of expensive furniture and appliances like Goo Joon Pyo, he thinks of a way to help her earn money. This method is just right for the self-respectable and willful Jan Di to be capable of accepting. He not only brought good friends to come help Jan Di make congee, he also helped Jan Di clean. He even sang on the streets for money. Because he allowed Jan Di to experience many "first times", he has touched people's hearts.

Independent artistic talent, So Yi Jung (Kim Bum)

The most loved F4 member by women and talented potter is So Yi Jung. His family background not as celebrated as Goo Joon Pyo's. However, being born in influential artistic family, the well-respected and talented in the ceramics field, So Yi Jung is the F4 with the best karma for women.

The enduring power with which So Yi Jung pursues women with is comparable with his attainment in creating ceramics. His handsome appearance, brilliant smile, rich artistic breath, plus his honey sweet words makes countless women swoon. Regardless of whether it is the top restaurant's beautiful chef or rich daughter of a prominent family, they are all mesmerized by this carefree, elegant playboy. Even Geum Jan Di's good friend, Chu Ga Eul could not help but to also be attracted by him and sink into the whirlpool of feelings. In order to teach Ga Eul's playboy ex-boyfriend a lesson, Yi Jung played a deeply emotional saxophone song, "I Know" in the bar and professed his love towards Ga Eul in front of everyone. Even though he played this trick to merely help out Ga Eul, he successfully captured Ga Eul's heart. However, in the wake of Yi Jung's first love's appearance and the surfacing of Yi Jung's complicated family circumstances, Yi Jung's pretentious playboy manners and carefree mask is gradually opened. Because of being afraid of love, Yi Jung runs away from it. Yet his sincerity causes Ga Eul to be endlessly pained by love.

Able to fight ten enemies by himself, Song Woo Bin (Kim Joon)

The young master of the real estate tycoon construction company that owns half of Jeju Island is Song Woo Bin. Even though he has the wealth and influence, in the midst of F4 he is not regarded as outstanding. However, the him who is part of the underground organizations is the most skillful and capable of F4. He is also the one necessary member in F4 who regulates the mood. In terms of fighting, even though none of the F4 are weak, as boss of an underground gang, Song Woo Bin is slightly better. Even Joon Pyo acknowledges Woo Bin's strength, punch from him can break his arm.

Even though there are relatively few scenes in the drama with Song Woo Bin, he still leaves behind a sense of righteousness, the impression of placing great importance in friendship. When his friends quarrel, he steps forward to try his hardest to resolve it. When Joon Pyo's girlfriend, Jan Di, was kidnapped, he put all his power in to find her. When the drunken Yi Jung was beat up in the bar, he sent out numerous, unnecessary, subordinates to make sure the people who injured the hand of his friend were personally captured. Of course, even though he does not have as many skills as Yoon Ji Hoo or suffer to nurture his artist talents like So Yi Jung, the Song Woo Bin, born to an underground family background, from his passion to his righteousness' charisma, has won the love of many viewers.

Capable of song and martial skills, Geum Jan Di (Goo Hye Sun)

Compared with the illustrious family background of F4, the commoner Geum Jan Di who is good at sports is one out of many. Geum Jan Di dreams of becoming the swimming champion at the Olympic Games. It was only because of her love for swimming did she choose to study at Shinhwa High. Her strengths cannot be looked down upon. in the match against So Yi Jung, she was not inferior in any respect, earning So Yi Jung's affirmation. However, the her who was filled with passion for swimming had to give up her dream due to an injury.

Even though her dreams of being a swimming contestant was destroyed, Geum Jan Di's strength at singing and martial skills are still worthy of expectation. When she received the red slip, classmates bullied Geum Jan Di until she finally exploded. With a memorable, beautiful tornado kick, she kicked the insufferably arrogant Goo Joon Pyo to the ground. Willing to be hurt twice for friends, tenacious and unyielding, and optimistic and lively, Geum Jan Di not only won the love of the audience, she also captured the hard of Goo Joon Pyo. Additionally, at Joon Pyo's birthday, when Geum Jan Di went on stage to play the piano and sing, it was very pleasant to listen to and had the potential of becoming a singer. The playing and singing Geum Jan Di shocked Goo Joon Pyo's mother, Madame Kang. She had originally wanted to take the opportunity to embarrass Jan Di, instead she gave Jan Di a stage for her to display her talents. This gave Madame Kang a rude awakening.
