Cheerful Caretaker screens in Busan

We know that aside from acting, Boys Before Flowers star Gu Hye-sun can sing, likes to draw, has published a novel, and has directed her own short film. That film, titled The Cheerful Caretaker [유쾌한 도우미], will be getting a film festival screening.

The short film has now been accepted into the fiction category of the Busan Asian Short Film Festival (BASFF), which runs from May 13 through 17. Competing in the festival are a total of 90 entries from 20 countries.

Gu Hye-sun filmed this short, her directorial debut, last year, as well as writing its script and the theme song. The short spans 14 minutes and stars actors Kim Myung-soo and Ha Ji-won’s younger brother, Jeon Tae-soo; its title “Cheerful Caretaker” alludes to the euthanasia-themed story. The short had been accepted into last year’s Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) in the “Wide Angle” category, but was eliminated in a preliminary round.

Goo Hye SUn And Lee Min Ho most difficult scene in BOF

Lee Min Ho and Goo HYE Sun's most memorable and difficult scenes
Source : Yahoo Koreawritten by: 봉준영
translated by: dunlop09 @ soompi.com

In a recent interview, Lee Min Ho revealed that the scene where Jandi and Junpyo share their first kiss at the playground was his favorite. “The most memorable scene for me was the first kiss with Jandi at the playground. It was a scene that confirmed their love for each other, so I put a lot of effort into it.”

Lee Min Ho also picked the New Caledonia filming as the most difficult. For the scenes that were shown on episodes 5 and 6, the cast and crew had to film for 10 days straight with barely any time to rest. “We couldn't even sleep properly for 10 days, everyone's patience was running very low. It was to the point where a slight nudge could set us off.”

Goo Hye Sun said the most memorable scenes to her, were the scenes where she ate. “There was a scene where Jandi eats rice and kimchi at her house. Fans said they liked that scene, and it is my favorite as well.” Goo Hye Sun also mentioned the party scene where Jandi spits out the tomato.

Goo Hye Sun, in particular, went through a lot throughout the filming of this drama. She had the most scenes to film, and on top of that, received a head injury and got into a car accident. To her, the most difficult scenes to film were the ones where Jandi gets bullied by the students. After getting a red card from the F4, Goo Hye Sun had to get hit by eggs and have flour dumped on her. “There was a scene where I get hit with tomatoes outside. The weather was so cold that the tomatoes froze as soon as they hit me, and I got frostbite. Also, I was always cold filming with those short skirts that were part of the uniform.”

my thought....
well...all their effort have been paid off....the drama is a huge success all over ASIA....even in here...in Australia...all my friends love F4 so much...i think...when they know how much we love the drama....they would be more than happy to redo the hardest scene all over again...

Jihoo and JanDi in Go Hye Sun's opinion

Jihoo is Jandi's soulmate

Goo Hye Sun clarified the relationship between Jihoo and Jandi, “Jihoo is Jandi's soulmate. Jandi likes Jihoo as a person and a irreplaceable friend, but she doesn't love him."

In a recent interview she said, "Love can only exist if the hearts of two people feel the same way, but Jandi does not have that feeling towards Jihoo. That's why, no matter how much Jihoo has feelings for Jandi, the two can never be together.

"Of course, Jandi liked Jihoo at first. But on the way, she has cleared up her feelings for him. The reason why she is so good to Jihoo after, is because she cares for him, not because she loves him.

However, it is true that Jandi's attitude is attracting Jihoo. At this, Goo Hye Sun said, "I know that there are bound to be people who criticize Jandi for putting up an innocent attitude between Jihoo and Junpyo, but that is because Jandi does not know Jihoo's heart. The viewers and I know his feelings, but Jandi does not know that Jihoo likes her.

But she said, "If I were to find out someone liked me, I would never show an innocent attitude. I think I would have to draw a clear line in order to ensure that I don't hurt him."

Goo Hye Sun clarified about wearing branded things

In regards to the viewers’ criticisms on her poor girl role in “Boys Before Flowers” covering with branded goods, Goo Hye Sun has made an explanation during a recent interview and stated that “the truth isn’t as such”.

Goo Hye Sun explained : “There were recently some viewers who accused me of using branded products, which does not match with the poor living conditions of Geum Jan Di in the drama. However, the truth isn’t as such. The leather shoes that appeared in the Macau scene was bought from Dong Dae Mun. And it only costs 10 thousand Won per pair. Owing to the story’s needs, we bought two pairs.”

Shortly after the broadcast of the scene where Jan Di broke her shoes, some netizens commented on websites that Jan Di’s shoe was actually a Christian Louboutin, a French brand that costs over a million won in Korea. They proceed to criticize Goo Hye Sun and the team on their lack of consideration for these details.

Goo Hye Sun said: “Although Geum Jan Di is an ordinary girl, but she isn’t a girl from a poor family. The original manga of ‘Boys Before Flowers’ was a product of the 90s, it is adapted into a K-drama only now. Hence, discrepancies between the different eras will definitely be present. Moreover, I would discuss with the coordinators of the team everytime I received props (apparels, shoes etc) from the sponsors, to determine if they fit into the character’s personality and status.”

Goo Hye Sun and Her Role in BOF

“Loving someone despite all obstacles may be one of the most difficult things in life. It may be harder than living in poverty,” said Ku Hye-sun, who is playing the heroine whom two of the four protagonists are pursuing in the KBS2 hit drama “Boys Over Flowers.” And that is why most women viewers are jealous of her.

In an interview at a shooting site at Eulwangri Beach in Incheon on Sunday, Ku said, “I was skeptical about its success when I decided to take the role. I doubted it would appeal to Koreans because it is based on a Japanese comic book. Taking the role itself was a challenge.”

Geum Jan-di, whom she plays, is an ordinary high school student who wants to be a swimmer. She happens to attend a school for rich children although her family is poor, with her parents running a small cleaners that they eventually lose to creditors. This gets her subjected to contempt and mistreatment, but she tries not to lose her dignity and faces her situation squarely.

Ku confessed that she herself couldn’t understand the character completely. “There were moments that I couldn’t sympathize with her. If I had been able to, I would not have had conflicts in my mind. I wondered why she tries to deal with all her difficulties alone and why she feels she has to take care of her family.”

But the 25-year-old actress said that Jan-di has made her a more genuine and happier person. “By playing the role, I have become more positive. I was sorry to realize that I am losing innocence as I get older, and that made it more difficult for me to be Jan-di. So whenever I couldn’t identify with her, I kind of forced myself to become more innocent.”

She continued, “And I actually recalled my high school years, and realized that what I cherished most then was the people I liked. It seems I felt that if I could be with them, I could do anything.”

The drama is enjoying great popularity thanks to Ku and the other stars who are giving their utmost effort despite some misfortunes they have suffered. Ku had a car accident on her way back to Seoul from a local shooting site and had to have the inside of her mouth stitched.

“I have to get a thorough examination when the shooting ends. I bumped my head hard as well, but had no time to get an examination due to the shooting schedule,” she said. “The schedule is so tight that we all have trouble with our physical conditions. We are suffering lack of sleep so much that we can fall asleep at any moment. Now that all the shooting will be over in a week, we will hang in there until then.”

In Incheon, she shot a scene where Jan-di, who has decided to part ways with her boyfriend Jun-pyo, played by Lee Min-ho, due to his mother’s disapproval, goes on a trip with him for the last time.

“But I want it to come to a happy ending. I personally like stories with happy endings because they warm people’s hearts. I hope my drama is also one of those kinds,” said Ku.

The Secret of the success of korean BOF

Korean "Boys Over Flowers"'s Secret to Success: Invincible F4
Source: Epoch Times
translation by MoonlightD @ http://www.asianfanatics.net

The Korean "Boys Over Flowers", relying on the irresistible looks of the beautiful "flower" boys and the brilliant story line, has firmly grasped the audience's full attention. It has gathered very high popularity. Not only does the drama have the rich and with prominent family backgrounds, F4, even the plain and common Geum Jan Di has her own unique skills. The sports, horsemanship, marksmanship, golf, soccer, swimming, ice hockey, basketball etc, have appeared on the scene in succession, opening the eyes of the audience. Let's take a look together at the irresistible stars below.

Invincible Goo Joon Pyo (Lee Min Ho)

In Boys Over Flowers, Lee Min Ho is both talented and handsome, worthy of leading F4, and is proficient at all kinds of sports such as horseback rider, golf player, shooter, soccer player, ice hockey player, archer, basketball player, etc. Despite avoiding swimming due to nearly drowning in childhood, for love he attacked and captured what may be called the Olympic Games all-round championship. In actuality, Lee Min Ho, who plays Goo Joon Pyo, once learned soccer for four years in Coach Che Fangen's youth soccer training class during elementary school. However, after an injury he could not help but give up playing soccer. This experience is not unlike the Geum Jan Di in the drama.

Born as the heir to the Shinhwa Group, Goo Joon Pyo seems to be invincible and revered. However, when facing the woman he loves, this untamable cruel and condescending man is exceptionally single-minded in infatuation. Even one word from Geum Jan Di will cause him to fix his hair with utmost care, put on his school uniform, and obediently attend school. Extremely cute. He had always believed that money could buy everything. However, Goo Joon Pyo had to suffer the cold shoulder from Geum Jan Di. He even experience Geum Jan Di's tornado kick. The invincible Goo Joon Pyo had finally met his match -- Geum Jan Di.

Multi-talented Yoon Ji Hoo (Kim Hyun Joong)

SS501's leader, Kim Hyun Joong, who played the part of Yoon Ji Hoo in the drama, is also extremely talented in music. In the drama is acts as the grandson of the former president, Yoon Ji Hoo, who can be said to be a multi-talented graceful gentleman proficient in violin, conducting symphonies, piano, and harmonic. Regardless of whether he is playing the violin hidden in the quiet forest, or singing with the guitar for money on the streets of Macau, or playing the harmonica for a patient, awaiting diagnosis, in his grandfather's clinic, Yoon Ji Hoo always appears to be so quiet and gentle.

Not only is he talented on the music side, Yoon Ji Hoo is also an expert at swimming, horseback riding, playing ice hockey, soccer, basketball, etc - all categories of sports. He is as dazzling as prince charming in fairy tales, especially when he rides his white horse. The attentive and understanding, Yoon Ji Hoo, is always stepping forward when the female lead, Geum Jan Di, runs into difficulty. When Jan Di was wounded by her relationship, he will always be accompanying her, by her side, comforting her. He also puts much thought and heart into the way he helps out Jan Di. Instead of sending a pile of expensive furniture and appliances like Goo Joon Pyo, he thinks of a way to help her earn money. This method is just right for the self-respectable and willful Jan Di to be capable of accepting. He not only brought good friends to come help Jan Di make congee, he also helped Jan Di clean. He even sang on the streets for money. Because he allowed Jan Di to experience many "first times", he has touched people's hearts.

Independent artistic talent, So Yi Jung (Kim Bum)

The most loved F4 member by women and talented potter is So Yi Jung. His family background not as celebrated as Goo Joon Pyo's. However, being born in influential artistic family, the well-respected and talented in the ceramics field, So Yi Jung is the F4 with the best karma for women.

The enduring power with which So Yi Jung pursues women with is comparable with his attainment in creating ceramics. His handsome appearance, brilliant smile, rich artistic breath, plus his honey sweet words makes countless women swoon. Regardless of whether it is the top restaurant's beautiful chef or rich daughter of a prominent family, they are all mesmerized by this carefree, elegant playboy. Even Geum Jan Di's good friend, Chu Ga Eul could not help but to also be attracted by him and sink into the whirlpool of feelings. In order to teach Ga Eul's playboy ex-boyfriend a lesson, Yi Jung played a deeply emotional saxophone song, "I Know" in the bar and professed his love towards Ga Eul in front of everyone. Even though he played this trick to merely help out Ga Eul, he successfully captured Ga Eul's heart. However, in the wake of Yi Jung's first love's appearance and the surfacing of Yi Jung's complicated family circumstances, Yi Jung's pretentious playboy manners and carefree mask is gradually opened. Because of being afraid of love, Yi Jung runs away from it. Yet his sincerity causes Ga Eul to be endlessly pained by love.

Able to fight ten enemies by himself, Song Woo Bin (Kim Joon)

The young master of the real estate tycoon construction company that owns half of Jeju Island is Song Woo Bin. Even though he has the wealth and influence, in the midst of F4 he is not regarded as outstanding. However, the him who is part of the underground organizations is the most skillful and capable of F4. He is also the one necessary member in F4 who regulates the mood. In terms of fighting, even though none of the F4 are weak, as boss of an underground gang, Song Woo Bin is slightly better. Even Joon Pyo acknowledges Woo Bin's strength, punch from him can break his arm.

Even though there are relatively few scenes in the drama with Song Woo Bin, he still leaves behind a sense of righteousness, the impression of placing great importance in friendship. When his friends quarrel, he steps forward to try his hardest to resolve it. When Joon Pyo's girlfriend, Jan Di, was kidnapped, he put all his power in to find her. When the drunken Yi Jung was beat up in the bar, he sent out numerous, unnecessary, subordinates to make sure the people who injured the hand of his friend were personally captured. Of course, even though he does not have as many skills as Yoon Ji Hoo or suffer to nurture his artist talents like So Yi Jung, the Song Woo Bin, born to an underground family background, from his passion to his righteousness' charisma, has won the love of many viewers.

Capable of song and martial skills, Geum Jan Di (Goo Hye Sun)

Compared with the illustrious family background of F4, the commoner Geum Jan Di who is good at sports is one out of many. Geum Jan Di dreams of becoming the swimming champion at the Olympic Games. It was only because of her love for swimming did she choose to study at Shinhwa High. Her strengths cannot be looked down upon. in the match against So Yi Jung, she was not inferior in any respect, earning So Yi Jung's affirmation. However, the her who was filled with passion for swimming had to give up her dream due to an injury.

Even though her dreams of being a swimming contestant was destroyed, Geum Jan Di's strength at singing and martial skills are still worthy of expectation. When she received the red slip, classmates bullied Geum Jan Di until she finally exploded. With a memorable, beautiful tornado kick, she kicked the insufferably arrogant Goo Joon Pyo to the ground. Willing to be hurt twice for friends, tenacious and unyielding, and optimistic and lively, Geum Jan Di not only won the love of the audience, she also captured the hard of Goo Joon Pyo. Additionally, at Joon Pyo's birthday, when Geum Jan Di went on stage to play the piano and sing, it was very pleasant to listen to and had the potential of becoming a singer. The playing and singing Geum Jan Di shocked Goo Joon Pyo's mother, Madame Kang. She had originally wanted to take the opportunity to embarrass Jan Di, instead she gave Jan Di a stage for her to display her talents. This gave Madame Kang a rude awakening.
